Our School - From Past to Present

Cranbourne Primary School is the oldest primary school in Cranbourne. It was first built in 1890 on its original site and moved to its present site in February 1969.  In 1989 the administration wing was a welcome addition. The Library received a renovation thanks to generous sponsorship provided by a former student Lawson Poole. In 2010 a new building was constructed under the federal BER initiative. In 2011 a further government grant enabled an upgrade to the main building, to develop open flexible learning spaces.

In 2024–25, the main building received a facelift, including new roofing and flooring supports. Colours were chosen as a nod to the heritage of the school. In addition, our Library was upgraded. We also welcomed Bakewell Street Kindergarten (https://www.cranbourne-ps.vic.edu.au/page/447/Bakewell-Street-Kindergarten) onto our site, and as a result of these Make Good Works, we have gained new shade areas and sporting resources. In 2026, thanks to a federal grant, our toilet block was demolished and rebuilt.

The facilities at Cranbourne Primary School include:

  • A gymnasium with a full size basketball court. This area is used for PE, sport and assemblies
  • An Art room and Music room located in the centre of the main building, which overlooks the basketball courts. This space has been designed with multiple entry and exits and is visible by all who pass by
  • A library which looks out into a covered area used by students as an outdoor classroom. This area is used during learning times as well as recess and lunch breaks
  • A covered decking with glass doors that can be opened to allow for an extention of learning spaces. This area is available for use by students in all areas of the school during learning and recreation times
  • An oval area with soccer goals and two designated areas to play cricket
  • A large array of native trees which provide shaded areas throughout the day
  • Two playground areas, with equipment appropriate to the age and height of our students
  • Sand pits which is often used by the staff for teaching purposes when investigating areas such as 'measurement'
  • And so much more
