Secondary School Transitions

Year 6 to Year 7 Transition – 2027

Moving from primary school to secondary school is an exciting milestone for students and families. The Year 6 to Year 7 transition process supports every student to successfully move into secondary school, ensuring they are enrolled, prepared, and confident for the next stage of their education.

All Victorian government schools follow a statewide transition and placement process. This ensures every student has a confirmed Year 7 placement and that families are supported to make informed decisions about their child’s education.

Families can apply for up to three preferred government secondary schools, including their designated neighbourhood school (local school). Every child is guaranteed a place at their local government school, while also having the opportunity to apply to other schools where places are available.

Our school works closely with families and secondary schools throughout the year to:

  • Support families with the application process
  • Ensure all students have a confirmed Year 7 placement
  • Share relevant learning and wellbeing information with the receiving school
  • Prepare students through transition and orientation opportunities

What Families Need to Do

  • Research secondary school options (tours, open nights, websites)
  • Identify your local school using the Find My School website
  • Complete and submit the Year 7 Placement Application
  • Review your child’s placement offer and accept by the due date
  • Participate in transition and orientation activities
